$1.8 million further in the hole

According to a WASB (Wi Association of School Boards) Gov. Scott Walker's proposed budget will reduce the per pupil revenue cap by $500 per student. For MG this would be a net reduction of $600/student from our current budget process - increasing our budget deficit for next year by $1.8M over and above our current estimated $750K deficit.

WASB's Executive Director John Ashley has also issued a letter expressing opposition to the "budget repair bill" in that it goes too far without adequate deliberation.

"We are concerned that the provisions in the budget repair bill that prohibit collective bargaining over everything but wages go far beyond helping school districts control costs."

This budget repair bill does more harm than good and it appears that he is responsible for creating the crisis: http://host.madison.com/ct/news/opinion/editorial/article_61064e9a-27b0-5f28-b6d1-a57c8b2aaaf6.html

Darn it all!

I thought we were going to get shiny new schools in the Grove! Now I guess we'll have to open up the vacant schools Monona and bus our kids in from CG.

I know we can't afford to pay any more in property taxes. Maybe the teachers can take a 10-20% pay cut and start paying for their health care and pension. If that happens, maybe our kids will still have a safe and comfortable learning environment. I know the teachers, professionals that they are and committed to "the kids" will continue to deliver outstanding service to their employers - US!.

Sure they will, but the good ones will move on to other places or professions and good people won't start teaching.

You get what you pay for. Apparently Wisconsin voters want to be Mississippi but with winter! Of course with global warming...

It's been sad to hear student teachers (nearing completion of their college education) who are currently in the classrooms of the Monona Grove School district comment that those graduating in education are looking to teach in other states and even other countries where the education profession is respected. As already mentioned, you get what you pay for, and value....
