Closing the gaps...

The widely anticipated(?) school report cards were released by the WI DPI today.  The report cards compare schools across the state on a variety of criteria.  MG's report cards can be found here.  What do they show? MG's schools all ranked in the "Exceeds Expectations" level, with achievement significantly above state averages.  The biggest deficit is found in the "Closing Gaps" section, that reports on the differences in achievement between white students and other groups, including minority students, students with disabilities and otherwise disadvantages.

None of this is a surprise, at least to me.  The achievement gap in our schools is serious and has been a problem for some time.

Do you know of districts with better scores on the "closing the gaps" ranking, and what are the factors that help? For example, do smaller districts tend to do better, or higher state aid districts or any other trend?

Thank you.

They don't make it easy to look through the data that way, and the majority of districts don't have enough minority students to break out their reports.

However I did manage to look through the data and can say that among the largest 30% of districts I can't see any trends that relate to district size or aided amounts. Our gap is about the median.

A few examples of districts with comparable achievement and minority populations, but with significantly smaller gaps leads are Neenah, DePere and Oak Creek.

Thoughts? Yes - more of the Monona Rag's half baked hysterical misinformation.

But I have no intention to get into a debate with someone who refuses to identify themselves and thus can't be held accountable for their statements. Mononarag has done the dirty work of school board members in the past, whose to say this isn't another case?
