Will the ad hoc report include a status update?

Chad Speight, Monona Alder, posted on Doug Wood's blog in a manner that one might assume closing Maywood is a forgone conclusion??

I wasn't aware that the committee had made any final recommendations?

I read Chad's entry on the blog, and I did not see any "foregone conclusion" Arguing in favor of sidewalks or virtual sidewalks is good for both Maywood and Winnequah.

OH, I C.
Frankly, I thought the argument about bldg GDS was that it would attract families. Sorry, I get confused by all this at time.

Seems funny to me that Speight would even say that it is "likely"
(his word) that Maywood will close.

I didn't know that his election (barely) to City Council meant that he became an automatic School Board expert too.

Talk about fanning the flames...........his yes vote to ship our kids to Cottage Grove probably did more to destroy the attractiveness of this community to families than any single other act in the last decade.

But enrollment in Monona's elementary schools is up significantly above projections since the GD school was opened. Its time for those in opposition to admit they were wrong!

Speakin as a parent of children I have to agree with Chad that the lack of sidewalks makes Monona less attractive.

You may have seen me walking with my kids in the morning and afternoon to and from Winnequah. Although they are old enough to walk alone now, we got in the habit when they were younger due to the lack of a safe pedestrian corridors from our neighborhood to Maywood and Nichols.

Speaking as a board member, I also have to agree that the lack of sidewalks does increase the costs of operating schools in Monona. There are walk zones around all the schools in Cottage Grove, but no walk zone around Maywood.

I raised my kids here, and I hated the lack of sidewalks. We chose to live her in spite of that. And it is very interesting as an above poster noted, Monona elementary enrollment has increased since GDS was built and the decline in Monona enrollment occured way before anybody thought a Monona child would ever be bused to Cottage Grove. Maybe we need to move on.

as a property owner on the proposed sidewalk route...I am not excited to PAY for these sidewalks out of my pocket. It is all fine to say we want these but who is going to pay. I know my neighbors and I would be hard pressed this year to fund Monona Sidewalks as part of improvements to my property
